Connecting with Community: Get Out and Give Back

December 9, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

As we get older, it can be difficult to stay engaged with our communities or to meet new people who share our interests. It can also be a challenge to find ways to use our skills and experiences in meaningful ways, especially after retirement. Volunteerism and participation in civic groups can offer great opportunities to utilize your skills, better your communities, and meet people with similar interests! Whether through non-profits, civic associations, church groups, or political organizations, there are plenty of opportunities to get more involved in your communities. Volunteering has even been shown to have benefits to physical and mental health, as well as reducing isolation.

Join the LGBT Elder Initiative and the Philadelphia Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service for a free forum on community engagement and volunteerism for LGBT older adults. Learn about many of the opportunities available to get involved and give back, and how to find the opportunities that are right for you. Participants will also be able to connect with representatives from local organizations who are seeking older volunteers.
