Deja Lynn Alvarez, LGBTEI Board member, will be among the honorees at this year’s HEROES, DVLF’s annual event recognizing LGBT individuals, allies, non-profits, and business that advance the equality of LGBT communities in the Greater Philadelphia region.

Deja is a proud Trans woman and longtime activist and advocate for the Trans Community.  She is part of Galaei’s Trans Health Information Project and Mazzoni’s Trans Wellness Project. Deja also serves on the Philadelphia Police Liaison Committee where she works directly with the Deputy Commissioner and other committee members to end the long history of issues between the police and the trans community.  Deja is a member of the board of directors for the LGBT Elder Initiative and is also Chairwoman of the Philadelphia Trans Day of Remembrance and Co-chair of the Philadelphia Trans March. Deja is also acting Director of the Divine Light Shelter.

HEROES was started 10 years ago to honor individuals whose work and leadership advance the rights of the LGBT community.   HEROES recognizes youth, adults, non-profits, straight-allies & businesses who have bold ideas, act with selfless intention, are admired for their integrity, and are regarded as courageous in advancing the equality of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, & transgender community in the Delaware Valley and beyond. DVLF honors these Heroes annually in celebration of their character & in encouragement of others to act heroically.

The 2016 HEROES will be celebrated on Sunday, April 17th, from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Hotel Monaco, 433 Chestnut St. You can purchase tickets here.
