Individuals in Philadelphia are currently able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine if they are eligible in either Phase 1a or Phase 1b. However, the number of people currently eligible for the vaccine still far exceeds the number of doses available each week.
Phase 1a includes healthcare workers and residents and staff in long-term care facilities. Phase 1b includes individuals who are age 75+ or who have high risk medical conditions including cancer, chronic kidney disease, COPD, heart conditions, organ transplants, obesity, sickle cell disease, smoking, and diabetes. As of February 23, HIV has been added to the medical conditions that would qualify someone for Phase 1b.
The Philadelphia Department of Public Health is continuing to operate a COVID-19 Vaccine Interest Form to gather information from Philadelphia residents about their interest in receiving the COVID-19 vaccination and to determine their eligibility. The Department of Public Health is using this database to schedule appointments at any of the city-run vaccine sites. Anyone who is unable to complete the online form should call the Health Department at 215-685-5488 or email covid@phila.gov.
There are now three city-operated vaccine clinics vaccinating eligible individuals in Philadelphia. They are located at the Martin Luther King Jr. Older Adult Center (2101 Cecil B. Moore Ave), the Community Academy of Philadelphia Charter School (1100 E. Erie Ave), and the Bobby Morgan Arena at the University of the Sciences (835 S. 43rd St.). Appointments are required and are being offered to eligible individuals who have completed the city’s COVID-19 Vaccine Interest Form.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has opened a Center City Vaccination Center located at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Similar to the city-run sites, appointments are being scheduled for eligible individuals who have completed the COVID-19 Vaccine Interest Form. There are no walk-up appointments. The Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium will be administering the COVID-19 Vaccine in the community for Phase 1b. The Consortium has been organizing walk-up vaccine clinics (no appointment necessary) for eligible individuals residing in neighborhoods & zip codes with the highest incidence of COVID-19 disease and death during the pandemic. Philadelphia FIGHT is vaccinating FIGHT patients (link to patient registration) AND non-patients (link to non-patient registration).
The Mazzoni Center is vaccinating patients of their health center who are in Phase 1a or 1b. Vaccines are by appointment only and must be scheduled through their patient portal.
Individuals who receive their healthcare at one of Philadelphia’s large healthcare institutions may be contacted by their healthcare provider through their patient portal. Jefferson Health is contacting eligible patients through the MyJeffersonHealth portal. Patients of Temple Health would be contacted through the myTempleHealth patient portal. Penn Medicine has its own Vaccine Interest Form for patients.
Individuals who qualify for Phase 1b based on being age 75 or over may receive emails inviting them to schedule vaccine appointments at participating pharmacies.
