About the Event
The LGBT Elder Initiative is celebrating its 10-Year Anniversary this year to commemorate a decade of work in support of our LGBT older adult communities in the Greater Philadelphia region! In the decade since the 2010 LGBT Elder Summit that lay the foundation for much of our work, we have provided vital community programming for LGBT older adults, advocated for the needs of our communities, and built bridges between the LGBT elder community and the aging services network.
Our anniversary activities will include opportunities to celebrate our work and LGBT older adult communities – including our annual A Cause for Applause fundraiser – as well as new programming and resources to address pressing issues currently affecting LGBT older adults.
Our 10-Year Anniversary activities will include:
A Cause for Applause – Our annual celebration is back in a virtual format on January 14, 2021! We are excited to honor the Center for Advocacy for the Rights and Interests of the Elderly (CARIE), Senator Robert P. Casey, and Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine as this year’s awardees. Get your tickets here!
EI 10 Speaker Series – Experts and advocates in the fields of aging, health, and LGBT rights will join us for a series of virtual conversations throughout the fall on topics including COVID-19, health disparities, racial and economic justice, access to care, and LGBT aging policy.
EI 10 Resource Book – This year’s program book will be a special edition that will be shared widely to promote resources and services for LGBT older adults in Greater Philadelphia. The Resource Book will be published virtually and in hard copy and shared through the communications channels of the LGBT Elder Initiative and William Way LGBT Community Center, as well as with any older adult coming to us for referrals.
