Can you master aging? As children, we’re taught how to be successful adults. By contrast, no one teaches us how to age well. As a result, most are unprepared for this new stage in life. The Aging Mastery Program (AMP) was created by the National Council on Aging to build a playbook for aging well and making the most of the gift of longer life.

Now, the Aging Mastery Program is being offered specifically for LGBT older adults for the first time through a collaboration between the LGBT Elder Initiative and Center in the Park, a nationally accredited senior center in Germantown.

The LGBT Aging Mastery Program is a 10-session course that kicks off on June 13th and runs through August 22nd. Weekly sessions will be held at Center in the Park every Thursday morning from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.

The AMP curriculum covers 10 primary topics:

• Navigating Longer Lives
• Exercise
• Sleep
• Healthy Eating and Hydration
• Financial Fitness
• Advance Planning
• Healthy Relationships
• Medication Management
• Falls Prevention
• Community Engagement

All sessions are facilitated by a roster of guest speakers from the community. The goal of the 10 core classes is to provide participants with an overview of the challenges encountered while navigating life in old age and offer support to master new skills.
