Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States and the leading cause of serious long-term disability. Your risk of experiencing a stroke increases as you get older. Fortunately, 80% of strokes are preventable. Additionally, knowing the signs and symptoms of a stroke will help you to react quickly and get immediate medical help if you or someone you know might be having a stroke.
