The Doctor Is In: Aging & Diabetes
October 16 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pmFree
There are over 30 million adults in the United States living with diabetes, including over a quarter of the older adult population. Many older adults living with diabetes are not aware of their diagnosis, with millions more having “prediabetes” where blood glucose levels are higher than normal. As we get older, diabetes can contribute to serious health problems such as heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and nerve damage.
Join the LGBT Elder Initiative and Jefferson Health for this month’s “Doctor Is In” program to learn about diabetes. We will learn about ways to prevent Type 2 diabetes, the most common type of diabetes affecting older adults. We will also discuss ways that people already living with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes can best manage their health and prevent diabetes-related health complications.
