At some point in our lives, an accident or illness could leave us unable to communicate with our healthcare providers about the types of medical treatment that we would or would not want to receive. We may need to rely on a designated individual to make decisions on our behalf. Advance care planning allows us to identify the people responsible for making these decisions and communicates our choices about the types of healthcare we would want to receive.
