There are over 44 million people in the United States who provide unpaid care to an older adult. While these caregiving roles are frequently filled by family members, many LGBT individuals also provide care to friends and “families of choice.” Being a caregiver can take a significant toll on one’s mental health, contributing to high levels of stress, anxiety, depression, and frustration. The impact of providing care can also lead to increased physical health care needs and put caregivers at an increased risk for poor health outcomes.

Join the LGBT Elder Initiative and Jefferson Health for this month’s “Doctor Is In” program to discuss caregiving of older adults. We’ll talk about ways that caregivers can best take care of their health and wellness while also meeting the needs of their loved ones. Presenters will share information and resources on how to stay engaged, healthy, and supported as a caregiver.
