As Americans grow older and retire from the workforce, financial security and the ability to care for one’s health needs become top priorities. For many retired individuals, Medicare serves as a supplemental income and a source of health insurance. Medicare provides universal health care coverage for seniors, including covering preventive health screenings and prescription drug costs. Over 46 million older adults receive their health care coverage through Medicare. An additional 9 million people are covered under Medicare due to having a disability.

However, in the current political climate, the future of Medicare is coming under attack. The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) has been running a campaign for individuals to write letters to their elected officials in order to inform them of the critical role that Medicare plays in their lives and to urge politicians to protect these necessary benefits.
